Green Bean Studios founder Anita Frost has been invited to open Shevington Memorial Park in Wigan on Saturday 2nd September 2023. Born in Wigan, Anita was honoured to be welcomed to host the official opening of the new play park, which will be a safe green space for children and families to enjoy outdoor time together in the town.

Anita and the team have grown a successful multi-revenue children’s entertainment brand valued at £86m that is loved by children across the UK, Europe, USA and beyond. The business has won multiple awards for their ECO toys, books, games, making an impact as a fast-growing sustainable children’s brand with protecting the planet and encouraging children to read for pleasure at its core.

Stats from Wigan Council show that the area is ranked as the 67th most deprived local authority out of the 354 local authority districts in England. In addition to this, 29 of Wigan's 200 neighbourhoods fall within the 10 per cent most deprived neighbourhoods in England.

The brand have a long-standing relationship with Wigan Council, working closely with schools, libraries, and families within the local community. The team enjoys engaging with children, parents, and caregivers at storytime events within the community. 

Having witnessed firsthand the impact deprivation has on children in this area, Green Bean Studios is passionate about enabling families to share precious moments together and supporting children to reach their full potential through reading and learning adventures.

Encouraging outdoor play is one of the cornerstones of Green Bean Studios. With children spending an increasing amount of time using screens, children’s mental health is declining and childhood obesity continues to rise. ​

Getting more children to play, learn and enjoy some outdoor adventures is fundamental to improving children’s mental and physical health. But in deprived urban areas such as some boroughs within Wigan, this can be challenging. This emphasises the importance of the new Shevington Memorial Park opening and the positive impact it will have on children’s health and wellbeing in the area.

Families in the area are invited to attend the official opening ceremony at Shevington Memorial Park on Saturday 2nd September. Anita will host several live interactive storytime sessions, sharing her award-winning stories from the Green Bean Collection with fun adventures for children to get involved in.

There will be a self-led trail for families to explore, finding the unique and lovable characters from the Green Bean stories located around the park, with fun Green Bean stickers for every child who completes the trail.
