Giving Back with Green Bean Studios At Green Bean Studios we are passionate about supporting families globally to thrive. We are proud to have sponsored four children from some of the poorest countries in the world for many years now, and in 2022 we are pleased to be sponsoring a further two children. We aim to support these children in their early years, sponsoring them from ages three, four and five up to when they start working. Four of the children we sponsor come from Rwanda, a country which was torn apart by the horrific 1994 genocide. Those who were children at the time of the genocide are now parents themselves, still bearing the wounds of the past. Over 39.1% of the population are living below the poverty line, and more than half of the population are under 18 years old. Though primary education is free in Rwanda, many parents still struggle to afford essentials like uniforms and books for their children. Our sponsorship enables families to provide for their children and supports their educational journey. In Rwanda, we sponsor Yumvagusenga who is now 11 years old and has been supported by our founder Anita Frost since she was 4 years old, and continues to be supported by Green Bean Studios. It has been incredible to be able to help her on her journey through education, and to empower her family to become self-sufficient. There are also three other children we sponsor in Rwanda, aged 6–7 years old, called Prince, Fils, and Queen, who spend their days animal herding, carrying out domestic services, and labouring. Through our sponsorship, we enable them to attend school and have the equipment they need to learn and develop in these vital formative years. By enabling their education, we open up opportunities for them later in life to thrive and support themselves. The other children we now support are Clara, a 5 year old girl in Indonesia, and Daynsly, a 4 year old boy in Haiti. Indonesia has a huge issue with child labour and as a result, children’s education is often sidelined and impacted by this. Haiti is statistically one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere and still struggles due to the devastation caused by the 2010 earthquake.
Outside of our monthly giving as sponsors, we also provide gifts for the children’s Birthdays and Christmas, as well as gifts for the whole family and funding to become sustainable, grow crops, acquire land and animals, and support their journey into enterprise. We love writing to the children we sponsor throughout the year, as well as sharing photos with them of what we are up to in the UK. We often receive drawings that the children have done and sent to us, which is a joy to see their creativity shine through. Our plan for the future is to one day visit all of the children we sponsor to meet them in person, learn more about their communities first-hand, and see the lives they are building for themselves.
