Anita Frost was honoured to receive the Queens of Heritage award at Cultureville’s Black Creative Soirée recently. This award recognises Black women leaders who have been change-makers in Manchester’s Black community. Other winners selected for this award included Sylvia Tella, a renowned singer-songwriter with two top-40 singles to her name, and Esther Lisk-Carew, who has worked in the cultural sector for 20 years. All of these inspirational Black women took to the catwalk as part of a fashion show at this year's Black Creative Soirée, an event celebrating Black creatives during Black History Month. Hosted by Cultureville and BOB Expo, this annual event was held in the stunning surroundings of Manchester Museum. The evening featured fashion shows by independent Black designers, an art exhibition featuring Black artists and creative performances by Black musicians, poets and dancers. With only 2% of workers in the UK’s creative industries being Black, there is a clear need for greater representation in this field. The Soirée was launched in 2022 to celebrate the incredible work of Black creatives in the North West, who unfortunately are severely underrepresented. The soirée provides a platform for Black creatives to showcase their work, connect with fellow creatives and network with industry leaders. Author and Green Bean Studios founder, Anita Frost, was honoured to be invited to this VIP black tie event in Green Bean’s hometown of Manchester. As a multi-ethnicity female entrepreneur, Anita has experienced first-hand the additional challenges that Black female creatives face in the world of business. This event was an important opportunity to celebrate the innovative and diverse talent that Black creatives in the North West have to offer. Supporting this annually is a way to recognise and promote the range of high-quality businesses that Black creatives are driving forward in the UK.
